Dr. ITAI MATUMBIKE
Dr Itai Matumbike is the Chief Medical Officer of Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and has held this role for the past 5 years.
He was born and brought up in Zimbabwe and graduated from the University of Zimbabwe Medical School with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) in the year 2000.
He completed his housemanship (foundation training) at Parirenyatwa and Harare Hospitals before migrating to the United Kingdom.
On arrival he worked in the Domiciliary Care industry initially as a driver rising to the ranks to become general manager of Redspot Homecare.
He returned to medicine starting his specialist training in Psychiatry, he attained a Master of Medical Sciences in Psychiatry (MMedSci) and Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatry (MRCPsych) before starting his higher specialist training in Forensic Psychiatry.
He attained a Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) in Forensic Psychiatry in 2011.
He was appointed Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at Rampton High Secure Hospital in 2011 and undertook prison in-reach sessions at HMP Doncaster and HMP Moorlands.
He was appointed Clinical Appraisal Lead in 2015 before becoming the Associate Medical Director in 2017, during that time he was responsible for professional standards, appraisal and revalidation and was the ICS Medical Lead for Workforce Planning. He became Acting Medical Director at Notts Healthcare for 7 months.
He was appointed Executive Medical Director at Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation in 2020. He is the Responsible Officer for Medical Revalidation for the Trust, Exec Lead for Medicines Management, Mental Health Legislation, Clinical Audit, Research and Innovation. He is the Caldicott Guardian for the trust and chairs the Northants ICB Research Strategy Group.
